Lockheed Aircraft Corporation

of Burbank, California.
1912 Allan and Malcolm Loughead founded the Alco Hydro-Aeroplane Company.
1913 Their first aircraft, the Model G Hydro-Aeroplane, was ready for a test flight.
Later the brothers legally changed their surnames from the original spelling of "Loughead" to the current spelling of Lockheed. They also changed the name of the company from "Loughead Aircraft Company" to Lockheed Aircraft Company at the same time.
They constructed seaplanes that would shatter speed and distance records for overwater flights.
1932 The company was bought out of receivership by its new owner, Robert Gross. Lockheed needed a new aircraft design that would once again position it as an innovative industry leader - this was the Electra.
1995 Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation came together as Lockheed Martin Corporation
