Luis Maria De Aznar ( -1929)

1929 Obituary [1]

LUIS MARIA DE AZNAR died in April 1929.

He was a nephew of Sir Ramon de la Sota, K.B.E., and managed jointly with him the shipping company Sota y Aznar, Euskalduna, Setares, Siderargica del Mediterraneo, Sierra Minere, and other important Spanish mining and metalurgical concerns. Among the Spanish members of the Iron and Steel Institute he was one of the oldest, for he was elected in 1896. He was a member of the Reception Committee which received the members of the Iron and Steel Institute when they visited Bilbao on the occasion of the Autumn Meeting held in that year, and he took a prominent part in organising the arrangements; during the meeting the party visited the Old Parliament House and the Oak of Guernica, and Don Luis, speaking in English, gave a short history of the Oak.

When the Institute repeated its visit to Bilbao in the autumn of 1928, Don Luis was again a member of the Reception Committee; ill-health, unfortunately, prevented him from taking the same active part in the preparations for the meeting, but that in no way abated his interest in the proceedings.
