Sir Matthew William Thompson (1820-1891) was chairman of the Midland Railway and a Liberal Party politician.

1878 Associate of the Inst Civil Engineers; lived in Guiseley, near Leeds

1890 Made a baronet on the opening of the Forth Bridge
