MacArthur, Perks and Co

1909 March 22nd. Incorporated with authorized capital of $250,000 (in 2500 X $100 shares); and with five members. The five initial members were: Sir Robert William Perks (1249 shares); Arthur Frederic MacArthur (1248 shares); John R. MacArthur (1 share); George William Volckman (1 share); Eric John Everett (1 share). Sir R.W Perks was the “Chairman” of the company; Arthur F. MacArthur was its “President”; John R. MacArthur was its “Treasurer”; G.W. Volckman was its “Vice President and General Manager”; Eric J. Everett was the company`s Secretary. The company`s principal registered office was at Sparks Street, Ottawa, Canada. It also had offices in New York (at 11 Pine Street up to 1916, and then at 120 Broadway).

The authorized capital of the company was increased twice: on 20 May 1914 to $500,000; and on 26 June 1914 to $1,500,000.

1915 constructing docks at Havana and building railway works in Oregon.[1]

1917 An article published in “The Ottawa Journal” of Wednesday 7 March 1917 (page 22) gave information on the projects undertaken by the company up to that stage (including the work then in progress at Asunsion in Paraguay).

At some time after April 1923, the two MacArthurs ceased to be shareholders and office-holders in the company. Sir R.W. Perks became the company`s “President”, and his son Robert Malcolm Mewburn Perks became a director of the company.

1926 Arthur Frederic MacArthur (born 24 October 1860 at Oramel, New York) died at Salt Lake City on 1 December 1926. An obituary of him was published in “The New York Times” of 2 December 1926 (page 27). John R. MacArthur was his brother (born 24 July 1862).

1927 May 10th. The company was dissolved. The special general meeting of the company`s shareholders which approved the dissolution of the company was held at 2 Central Buildings, Westminster, London, on 26 April 1927.
