Machen Forge and Tinplate Works is one of the oldest iron forge sites in South Wales.

The forge dates from the sixteenth century

1826 Expanded into tinplate manufacture

1859 Listed under Newport and Tin Plate Manufacturer. 'Machen Tin-Plate Co. John Green - Agent'.[1]

1886 The site closed


  • Remains on the site include the ruined stables and a disused viaduct that was part of an extensive water power system.
