Manufacturing Industry Development Association (MIDAS) formed by Vestec in collaboration with Surrey University to promote the use of computer-aided engineering in "small" companies.

The scheme originated around in 1980 when the 50-man strong Epsom company Vestec specialist fabricator of stainless steel equipment approached Surrey University for help in designing one-off pressure vessels[1]
