1878 Born in Geneva.

Trained in Geneva a mechanic.

He was invited by an electrical engineer friend in Barcelona to join him to do the mechanical design work on an electric bus project. The project failed, but Birkigt remained in Barcelona designing car and petrol engines. He then became the chief designer for the new Hispano-Suiza company.[1]
