Maritime Museum of Denmark

M/S Museet for Søfarts - M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark is the Danish national maritime museum.
Located in Helsingør (Elsinore), near the castle.
This new museum is below ground level, with glass-clad rooms criss-crossing a former dry dock. It follows a trend in museums, in which the architecture is more memorable than the exhibits. The design is certainly eye-catching. There is currently (2014) a display showing the extensive work needed to incorporate the museum in the dry dock area. The designers recognised that, having removed the earth surrounding the dock, the groundwater would tend to cause it to float. To counteract this, ground anchors were installed in holes drilled to a depth of 42 metres.
