"MARRIOTT CLAUDE RITCHIE was born in 1872, third son of the late Dr. Thomas Ritchie of Otley, Yorkshire, and received his education at the Battersea Polytechnic Institute.
He served his apprenticeship with the Bremner Machine Co, Otley, Yorkshire, from 1888 to 1894, in whose employment he continued as junior draughtsman for a further six years. He then filled various positions with the Johnston Die Press Company, Ltd., London, being placed in charge of the office and subsequently held a similar post under the managing director of the Maschinenfabrik at Zurich.
From 1902 to 1909 he was manager of the Anglo-American Inventions Syndicate, London, proprietors of and dealers in printing machines. In 1909 he went into business on his own account and established the firm of Messrs. M. C. Ritchie, Ltd., London, makers of paper and cardboard box machinery. Mr. Ritchie, whose death occurred in July 1950, continued as managing director of his firm until the end of his active career. He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1905."
