1874 Notes. 'While I have been engaged with this manuscript collection of foreign merchants in Manchester, two of the oldest had died, one being Martin Schunck, who settled here about the year 1811; he departed this life on the 21st of February, 1872, aged years, his survivor being S. L. Behrens, who died on the 30th of June, 1873 aged 85 years. His time of location amongst us would not be far distant from the year 1814, the places of the two deceased being taken up through seniority by two German merchants, who walk actively through the streets with a united age 158.'[3]
