MATHEW BUCHAN, born at Edinburgh on the 12th June, 1867, died at Portobello on the 7th June, 1909.

Early in his career he was engaged in the design and construction of electric machinery in the United Skates.

Since 1897, when he founded the firm of Buchan and Partners, at Edinburgh, he carried out consulting electrical work for various burghs in Scotland and for the Scottish Office of Works, and his firm was also concerned in electrical power projects in India and elsewhere.

Mr. Buchan personally carried out armour-plate annealing experiments for the British Government and several Continental Powers.

He was elected a Member of The Institution on the 4th February, 1908.
