1914 Washed Wools and Milipuffs for Bedding, Merretts Mills, Woodchester, Stroud, Glos. Established over sixty years ago by Henry Grist. Continued by William Grist (son). Present Principal: Matthew Grist (son of W. Grist). Claim that they have never made any unwashed Flock. Premises: Situated on the banks of one of the tributaries of the Severn, and have an unlimited supply of clean water. Mills cover about three acres. Staff: About fifty. Specialities: Washed Wools and Millpuffs only made, which are guaranteed to pass the standard of the Rag Flock Act, 1911.

1933 New Company. 'Matthew Grist, Ltd., has been registered a private company, with a capital of £9,000 in shares (3,000 preference and 6,000 ordinary). The objects are to acquire the business of a manufacturer of purified woollen flocks and millpuffs, lately carried on by Matthew H. Grist at Merretts Mills, Woodchester. The permanent directors are: Samuel H. Grist, The Croft. Rodborough Common, Stroud, flock manufacturer, Lionel Grist, Elm Bank, S. Woodchester, flock manufacturer, Mabel Maria Grist and Josephine J. Palmer. The qualification is £50 shares and remuneration as fixed by the Company.'[1]
