Maurice Carter (1898-1967) of Carter Gears

1898 October 14th. Born in Bradford the son of James Carter, Master Metal Worker, and his wife Mary

1911 Living at 257 New Hey Road, Bradford, with his parents, sister and brother (Walter).[1]

1914 Apprentice with Newton, Bean and Mitchell

1924 Married in Bradford to Nellie Denby. He is an Engineer's Draughtsman.

1928 Employed by Newton, Bean and Mitchell. Responsible for design of engines up to 1,500 h.p. Member of Council of the Bradford Engineering Society. Application to IMechE.[2]

1939 Living at 53 Bowling Hall Road, Bradford: Maurice Carter, Chartered Mechanical Engineer. With Nellie Carter.[3]

Invented the Carter Hydraulic Variable Speed Gear.

1945 Formed Carter Gears

1967 September. Died. of Southway, Tranmere Park, Guisley.
