Professor Max Kurein (Member), a world authority on machine tools and the behaviour of metals, died on 8th August at the age of 89.
Educated in Germany, Max Kurrein came to England in 1905 and was for four years on the design staff of W. T. Avery at Birmingham. On his return to the Continent he was appointed assistant to the head of the Dusseldorfer Maschinenbau—Akt, and was later made Chief Engineer of the Machine Tools Research Establishment at the Technical High School, Berlin; a post he held for 21 years.
In 1934 he was responsible for the opening of the Machine Engineering Section of Haifa's Technion, which later became the largest department in the Institute and where he worked until recently.
Author of many books and papers, Professor Kurrein was made a Member in 1940.
His death will be a sad loss to the world of engineering and to our members in Israel to whom he gave valuable advice and friendship.
