Mum (Deodorant)



Mum was the first brand of commercial deodorant. Made by Thomas Christy and Co.
- 1888 Mum was developed and patented by an unknown inventor in Philadelphia. The product is still widely used in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Venezuela, Peru, Philippines, Singapore and Mexico.
- 1940s Helen Barnett Diserens developed an underarm deodorant based on the same principle as the 'ball point' pen.
- 1952 The new underarm deodrant was tested in the USA for the first time.
