Mumm, situated in Reims in northern France, is one of the largest champagne producers worldwide.

  • 1827 The company was founded by three brothers Jacobus, Gottlieb and Phillip Mumm, German winemakers from the Rhine valley, as P. A. Mumm Giesler et Cie. , named after their father Peter Arnold Mumm, a successful wine merchant from Solingen.
  • 1853 The partners split up and part of the company was taken over by Georges Hermann Mumm, son of one of the brothers, the company then becoming known as G. H. Mumm et Cie.
  • 1875 The Cordon Rogue (red ribbon) logo was introduced.
  • 1910 The second part of the company, which had become Jules Mumm and Co, was wound up.
  • Mumm is the champagne which is sprayed by successful drivers on the podium after Formula 1 Grands Prix.
