1883 Obituary [1]
Mr. MYLES KENNEDY, of Stone Cross, Ulverston, who died on the 13th March 1883, in his forty-seventh year, was managing partner in the firm of Kennedy Bros., owners of the Roanhead and Askam hematite iron ore mines.
He was one of the promoters and directors of the North Lonsdale Iron and Steel Works, and took an active part in the management of other enterprises on the West Coast, including the most extensive paper-mills in the Ulverston district.
Mr. Kennedy possessed a wide range of scientific knowledge and tastes. He was a graduate of the School of Mines, London, a member of the Geological Society of London, and of the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers. He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1874, on the occasion of the Barrow meeting; but his numerous local engagements, and the ill-health which latterly overtook him, prevented him from attending or taking any active part in the subsequent meetings.
