Nantes Transporter Bridge

The Pont Transbordeur de Nantes crossed the River Loire.
Completed in 1903.
It was the first of two cable-stayed cantilever transporter bridges designed and built by Ferdinand Arnodin. See the entry for the other, Marseille Transporter Bridge, for links to photographs showing details of construction of this type of bridge.
The two cantilevered booms each projected 53.188 m from the centre of the pylon to connect with a central bowstring bridge section 34.62 m long. The booms projected outwards by 25 m, where the anchoring cables were connected.
Distance between towers 141 m. Height from water level to underside of boom = 52 m.The gondola was tested with a load of 85 tons.
