National Sawmills
WWI A number of sawmills were nationalized by the Ministry of Munitions to provide boarding for "miscellaneous packages" and boxes. These small mills were mostly operated by their original owners with a Ministry representative on site, and reverted to their owners after the Armistice:

- Inverness - The Sawmills: J. Walker and Co.
- Kilmarnock (Bonington Road): Brownlie and Co.
- Luton - (Dunstable Road): H. Brown and Sons
- Poole - Hamworthy: J. T. Sydenham and Co.
- Rotherhithe - London (Plough Road): Priddy and Hale
- Southampton - Northam: Driver and Co.
- Warrington - Walton Lay Bye: R. A. Naylor Ltd
