1828 Netherton Waggonway opened in 1828 from Netherton NZ2381 to Morpeth NZ2085. It later linked Howard Pit, Frances Pit and Nethertonhall Colliery to Bedlington. 1828 map by Greenwood shows early railways around Bedlington Iron Works NZ2782. 1838 'Notice is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, John Birkinshaw and William Shepherd, as Coal-Owners, carrying on business at Netherton, in the county of Durham, and at Blyth, in the county of Northumberland, under the style or firm of the Netherton Coal Company, was this day dissolved ; and that the same will in future be carried on by the said William Shepherd and John Cass Birkinshaw and Henry Birkinshaw. — Dated, this 26th day of December 1838.'
