Nibelungen Bridge (Worms)

From Graces Guide

Nibelungenbrücke in Worms, Germany, was built in 1951-3.

Note: There is another Nibelungen Bridge, in Regensburg.

It is a prestressed concrete haunched box girder road bridge, made interesting by the retention of one of the two bizarre stone towers which were part of the original bridge.

The original bridge was built between 1897 and 1900, and named the Ernst Ludwig Bridge.

In March 1945, the bridge was blown up. The damaged bridge tower on the Hessian side of the Rhine was demolished and the steel construction of the arches spanning the Rhine was replaced by the present bridge.[1]

The Nibelungen Tower has a total height of 53m.
