1888 Born at Long Town, Cumberland

Educated at Carlisle Grammar School and then at the George Watson and at the Heriot-Watt Colleges (Edinburgh).

1909 he started his career at Newcastle-on-Tyne as Lecturer in Engineering and Mathematics.

1912 he graduated B.Sc. (Engineering)

1913 was appointed Superintendent to a Grand Technical Institute and Supervisor of Classes in Engineering Subjects in the Liverpool Branch Technical Institutes.

c.1917 Research in the Applied Electricity Laboratories of the Liverpool University
