Northern Distilleries

From Graces Guide

180 Hope Street, Glasgow, Ben Morven Distillery, Halkirk and Gartloch Distillery, Garnkirk

1897 The Northern Distilleries Limited was incorporated, with capital of £200,000, to acquire the premises of the Gerston Distillery Co, which was now renamed Ben Morven Distillery. In addition to acquiring an existing malt whisky distillery in Caithness, the company's plan was to build a grain whisky distillery, Gartloch, on the outskirts of Glasgow. According to the company's prospectus, it was planned to add three more wash backs at Ben Morven, to bring production to about 3,600 gallons per week. The Gartcosh Distillery, when finished, planned to produce 30,000 gallons of spirit per week, from grain and barley.[1]

1900 In December, the company went into voluntary liquidation.[2]
