1893 The company was incorporated on 9th February with a capital of £100,000, to acquire by purchase, charter, hire, or otherwise, steamships or other craft, to enter into and carry out contracts with respect to the building of steamships etc., for carrying goods, wares, merchandise, or other things from or to any port or ports in Great Britain or elsewhere, where practicable; and to carry on the business of owners, lessees, or proprietors of oil wells, or reservoirs, or oil merchants, exporters, and importers, and generally to carry on the business of merchants dealing in petroleum and kindred products.[1]
