1880 Walter George Head, the owner of the Gasworks at Northfleet, and the Greenhithe Gas Company Limited, applied to amalgamate their respective undertakings and provide for the continuance of the amalgamated undertaking under the title of "The Northfleet and Greenhithe Gas Company Limited." The united Company would manufacture and store gas on the sites authorised by the Greenhithe Gas Order, 1878, and the Northfleet Gas Order, 1879.[1]
