This is a London Underground station on the Central line and the District line and Circle line.

The Circle and District line platforms were opened in 1868 by the Metropolitan Railway as part of its extension from Paddington to Gloucester Road. On the Circle and District lines it is a cut and cover station still covered with a glass roof.

The Central line platforms were opened in 1900 by the Central London Railway.
