Oare Gunpowder Works

Originally known as Davington Mills, Faversham's second gunpowder factory (of three), started by Huguenot refugees in 1683.

Together with Chart Gunpowder Mills and the Royal Gunpowder Factory at Waltham Abbey, these are the only conserved exhibitions of explosives manufacturing history in the UK. Old cooperage is now the visitor centre. One C20 gunpowder mill has been repatriated from Ardeer in Ayrshire and is on site
