Born the son of Henry Hunt, a Tea Dealer, and his wife Catherine Capper

1877 Married at Ipswich to Harriet Lydia Lockwood and had three daughters

1881 Living at Dove lane, Bristol, a match Manufacturer, with his wife and one daughter.[1]

1911 Living at Woodcroft, Highdale Road, Clevedon: Octavius Hunt (age 63 born Bristol), Match Maker and Employer. With his wife Harriet Lydia Hunt (age 61 born Woodbridge). Also his nephew Richard Gardiner (age 41 born Leeds), Commercial Traveller.[2]

1915 Died. 'We regret to have to record the death of Mr Octavius Hunt, which took place on August 4, at Harrogate. An old Bristolian, Mr Hunt was well known as, the maker of Hunt's safety matches, and he was also for many years one of the leading chess players of the city, being associated, first with the Bristol and Clifton Chess Club, which he joined in 1875....[3]
