1758 Ship launch. 'His Majesty's Ship Venus, of 36 Guns, built by Messrs. Okill and Rigg, contractors and Merchants and Mr.Thomas White, Overseer, is proposed to be launched here on the 9th of March next. She is deemed superior to any of the 40 Gun Ships being built on a new Plan; and by the Judges of the Mould and Construction of a Vessel, is looked upon to have a more beautiful Body, and greater Appearance for fast sailing, than any Man of War ever built in this town (Liverpool).'[1]
