1908 Maker of Osborne four-speed motor bicycle pulleys. This device has a sliding flange which can be locked in four distinct and different positions, a jockey pulley being raised into engagement with the belt to take up the slack on the lower gears.
A complete machine was also shown in which the gear was an integral portion and the back wheel was slid bodily backwards instead of using a jockey pulley when it is desired to tighten the belt.
1909 April. Advert. 'THE NEW OSBORNE 3 1/2 h.p. Peugeot MOTORCYCLE: 4 speed gear, fitted with back sliding wheels, doing away with jockey pulley and all belt difficulty.
