Peking-Kalgan Railway
1905 Line built north-west from Peking by Chinese engineers (after objections from Russia about use of non-Chinese engineers).
The original proposal was to build a line from Fengtai, near Peking, to Kalgan, using surplus profits of the Peking-Mukden Railway. The line from Fengtai to Kalgan is 125 miles. A branch line of 16 miles ran from Hsichihmen (near Peking) to Mentoukou, site of an anthracite coal field. Line was extended from Kalgan to Yankowhsien, a distance of 78 miles, but this was only used for coal traffic[1]
