1837 'Explosion of Steam Boiler at Prescot.- On Saturday forenoon, the steam boiler belonging to Mr. Peter Large, spindle and fly manufacturer, exploded. The top of the boiler, after going into the air, fell upon the workshop adjoining, breaking through the roof, in which several hands were at work. The proprietor was so much injured that he expired on Tuesday morning. A boy named Fitzpatrick was so severely scalded that he died in a few hours after the explosion. Another boy named Welsby lies in a dangerous state.' [1]
