1849 Born in Bishop Wearmouth, Durham, son of James and Mary Laing; baptised in Chapelry of Deptford, Deptford, Durham[1]

1861 James Laing 38 and Philip H Laing 11 were visitors in Newcastle[2]

1868 Entered St John's College, Cambridge

1881 A shipbuilder, living with his father in Bishopwearmouth[3]

c.1888 Seems to have married Dolores around this time

1907 Died in London; under one version of the probate, his estate was to be handled by his widow Dolores Mary Laing[4]
