Mr P. Mayne, M.A. (Member), who is the new Chairman of the North Eastern Branch, was educated at Christ's Hospital, Horsham, and at Cambridge University, where he obtained a first class honours degree in Mechanical Science.

In 1921 he joined the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, and in 1924 he went to I.C.I., Synthetic Ammonia and Nitrates Ltd, where he was, in succession, Design Engineer, Group Maintenance Engineer and the Group Manager. In 1937 he became Engineering Works Manager and in 1945 he was appointed Chief Engineer to I.C.I., Billingham Division. A year later he was made Engineering Director and in 1955 he took up his present post as Technical Director of the Division.

In the same year Mr Mayne was elected as Tees-side representative to the Branch Committee, he had become a Member of the Institution in 1946, and in 1956 he became the first Chairman of the Tees-side Advisory Panel, of which he is still a member. He has been a member of the Branch Committee for a number of years.
