The death took place at Antwerp, Belgium, on 1 January 1951, of M. P. J. Leemans, Administrateur-Delegue de la Societe Generale Metallurgique de Hoboken.

M. Leemans, who combined an outstanding talent for organization with first-class ability as a technician, had devoted a great part of his energies to the building up of this important concern, and was one of the outstanding figures in the fields of non-ferrous metallurgy and of chemistry, both in Belgium and the Belgian Congo. In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded in 1945 the Andre Dumont Prize of the Union des Ingenieurs sortis de l'Universite de Louvain, where he himself had studied for his degree of Ingenieur civil des Mines.

M. Leemans had been a member of the Institute of Metals since 1924.
