Pont de Vacherauville
This bridge was installed in the early 1960s to replace a ford crossing. Later, in 2014, it was the subject of a restoration project by the municipality. It consists of two “Whales”, used during the Normandy landings in 1944, as part of the Mulberry Harbour.[1]
The Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches was used until November 1944, after which the metal parts will be dismantled, and some served as temporary bridges, installed among others in the Meuse, at Quincy Landzecourt, on the Rhône at Surjoux and at Cattenom. [2]
Note: See here for information about another Whale used as a bridge over the River Noireau.
