1981 David Richards, an accountant and car racing enthusiast, won the World Rally Championship with Ari Vatanen; Richards then retired from rallying to set up his own business David Richards Autosport, a motorsport consultancy[1]

1984 the company was renamed Prodrive[2]

1996 Won World Rally Championship with Subaru and Colin McRae driving

1997 The company reorganised itself into 3 commercial divisions[3]:

  • Engineering
  • Sales
  • Motorsport

1999 Ajax Partners acquired 49 percent of the company

2000 Floated as a public company[4]

2001 Acquired Tickford Group

2001 Managed BAR Formula 1 team

2004 Honda bought BAR

2007 The company employed c.1000 people.

2007 A consortium led by David Richards with Kuwaiti backing acquired Aston Martin Lagonda from Ford[5]
