of Newark-on-Trent

1814 This was the date given for the foundation of the business in a later company prospectus.[1]

1874 The firm of Harvey and Quibells, chemists and druggists, cake and tillage merchants, coal merchants, manufacturers of chemical manures and seed merchants, of Newark-upon-Trent, was dissolved, with the business to be carried on by William Oliver Quibell and Thomas Oliver Quibell under the style of Quibell Brothers.[2]

1899 Quibell Brothers Limited was registered, with a nominal capital of £150,000, to acquire and take over as a going concern the business carried on under the style of Quibell Brothers at Newark-upon-Trent. The company was to carry on the business of manufacturers and dealers in agricultural and all other chemicals and manures, sheep dips, disinfectant, glue, size, gelatine, grease and soap, bone boilers, corn, seed, and cake merchants, seed crushers, oil merchants, oil and colourmen, sheep dippers, drysalters, farmers, graziers, bakers, confectioners, etc.[3]

1920 The business was one of eight companies that were combined in the creation of British Glues and Chemicals. This involved the original company of Quibell Brothers going into liquidation in order to allow a successor of the same name to be registered.[4]
