Mr. Thurston entered the employment of the National Physical Laboratory in 1929, and worked in the Engineering Division until 1946. During this period he was mainly engaged in the strength of materials field and concentrated particularly on fatigue problems.
Arising from his activities in connexion with screw thread unification, he was offered and accepted a position with the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys, Canada, where he is now head of the Engineering Physics Section of the Mines Branch, and responsible for non-destructive testing, experimental stress analysis and certain brittle fracture and fatigue investigations.
