1919 Obituary [1]
R. D. KEAY, general manager of Yarrows, Limited, Esquimalt, received his early education in Liverpool, and gained his first practical experience in shipbuilding with Messrs. Palmers, at Yarrow.
He had the distinction of being one of the youngest Whitworth scholars, as he was awarded that honour at the early age of 20 years.
After a few years with Messrs. Palmers, he entered the service of Messrs. Yarrows, and continued with that firm until his death. At their great Scotstoun works, Mr. Keay was responsible for a considerable portion of the lay-out, and on the firm deciding to establish shipyards at Esquimalt, he was put in charge of this work, and remained there until the time of his death, which took place in 1916.
Mr. Keay was elected a Member of the Liverpool Engineering Society on 24th April, 1895.
