Dr. DOHERTY was associated with the General Electric Company from 1909 to 1931 where he was consulting engineer and also in charge of the company's educational programme.

In 1931 he became Professor of Electrical Engineering at Yale University and two years later was made Dean of the Yale School of Engineering.

He became President of Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1936.

Dr. Doherty is an authority on technical education. He has twice been awarded the Larnme medal; once by the American Institute of Electrical Engineers for contributions to engineering development; also by the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Education for achievements in engineering education.
