1840 Sale Notice: 'Sale of excellent Screw-cutting and other Bed LATHES, with Quadrant Slide Rests, Wheel-cutting Machines, Working Tools, and other Effects, at Brueton Mills, Prospect-row, Birmingham.
To be SOLD by AUCTION, by Mr. GIMBLETT, on Tuesday the 14th day April, 1840, on the premises as above, sundry excellent MACHINERY belonging to Messrs. R. Griffiths and Co. who have removed their establishment to Smethwick — consisting of several superior large powerful bed lathes, with slow-motion quadrant slide rests, wheel and screw-cutting apparatus and tools, two new bed lathes, nine feet long, with slow-motion quadrant slide rests, and, traversing motion in front for screw-cutting, an excellent wheel-cutting machine, superior self-acting planing machine, powerful facing lathe six feet diameter, with slow-motion, gearing, &c., self-acting screwing machine, with taps and dies complete, an excellent powerful bed lathe, twelve feet long, fifteen-inch centre, slide rest, slow-motion, pulley and gearing; also several lathes of smaller dimensions, anvils, swages, vices and benches, smiths' bellows, tools, several sets of stocks and dies, stamp, and other effects, particulars of which will appear in the catalogues. Sale to commence at ten o'clock, under the usual conditions.'[1]
