1894. "The ride for Land's End to John o'Groats by R. H. Carlisle was terminated on Thursday night when he completed the distance in 3 days 14 hours and 15 minutes. This time is the fastest on record for the distance, the previous best being accredited to G. P. Mills who on June 5 to June 8 last year covered the distance on a tricycle in 3 days 16 hours and 47 minutes." [1]

1896. "Partnerships Dissolved. T. A. Edge and R. H. Carlisle proprietors of a cycling and athletic paper known as the 'Cycler's News', Manchester under the style of Edge and Carlisle." [2]
