R. M. Pitblado, BEng (Chem), graduated with first class honours at McGill University, Montreal. Following military service in the Canadian armed forces, during which he was commissioned, he worked with Shell (Canada) Ltd on asphalt bitumen plant and later did research on catalytic methods of reducing emissions from nitric acid plants. Awarded a two-year Athlone Fellowship by DTI he spent the first year in the UK with Shell Chemicals at their Stanlow refinery, as a solvents plant technologist. He is now with Cremer and Warner, where, as a chemical engineer, he works on river and air pollution projects, industrial solvents manufacture, free radical kinetics and feasibility studies.
