From Graces Guide

1868 Bankrupt. '...William Forsyth, of No. 19, High-street, in the city of Exeter, Boot and Shoe Dealer and Manufacturer, trading under the style or firm of R. and J. Dick, having been adjudged bankrupt...'[1][2]

1868 Bankruptcy proceedings. 'Wm FORSYTH, boot and shoe manufacturer, trading under the name or style of R. and J. Dick, 19, High-street, Exeter...Bankrupt, examined by Mr. Clarke, said he had traded under the style of R. and J. Dick. He had put them down as creditors for £81 9s. 6d. They carry on business at Glasgow. No connection existed between him and that firm, except that he bought goods of them and paid for them in the usual way...The reason he used the name of R. and J. Dick was that they were manufacturers of the gutta percha bottom boots and shoes, and were the only manufacturers in the kingdom. All those in the business, who bought goods from them were allowed to use their name....the name of Dick, boot and shoe dealer, was over the door'[3]
