R. and W. Hawthorn: Coronation

1832 Railway locomotive built by R. and W. Hawthorn, designed by Timothy Hackworth
Hackworth was asked to design a series of locomotives for the increasing trade in coal haulage[1]. He prepared plans for two different types of engine, with 6 of each built. In design, they were not dissimilar, and followed the arrangement of inverted cylinders used in the "Royal George". They had "long engines" and where called the "Majestic" and "Wilberforce" type locomotives. The locomotives were named:
- 12 Majestic
- 13 Coronation
- 14 William IV
- 15 Northumbrian
- 17 Lord Brougham
- 18 Shildon
