Lieutenant Ralph Eustace Smith, R.A.F,

1882 Born the second son of Eustace Smith of Benton House, near Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, and a grandson of the Thomas Eustace Smith of Gosforth Park.

Director of Thomas and William Smith Ltd. of Newcastle, and of Smith's Dock Co Ltd. of North and South Shields and Middlesbrough.

Married a daughter of Mr. Edward Joicey, of Blenkinsop.

WWI Joined a battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers as a second lieutenant on the outbreak of war, and was later transferred to the Northumberland Hussars, with whom he served for some time in France.

1917 joined R.F.C.

1918 Died in action
