Ram Hill Colliery was producing good quality coal between the early 1830’s and the late 1860’s. Most of the coal from this mine was used in Bristol for domestic heating and fuelling the increasing number of steam engines during the industrial revolution.

2005 December. English Heritage listed it as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (number 1021386).
