From Graces Guide

The group was founded in 1949 and grew organically before expanding rapidly through a series of acquisitions in the late 1980s and early 1990s including H. Samuel and Ernest Jones and Salisburys.

1987 Renamed as the Ratners Group.

Gerald Ratner, as CEO, built the company from 130 stores to 2500.

1993 Renamed Signet Group plc

By 2008 the name, Ratner, once an important brand had disappeared.
