Born at West Bromwich the son of William Percival Brookes (1883-1918), a Commercial Traveller, and his wife Ursula Rosina Butler

1923 Started work at Charles Bunn

1937 Married Florence Edna Sharman and had one son John (b.1940)

1939 Appointed MD of Charles Bunn

1939 Living at 11 Jayshaw Avenue, West Bromwich, General Manager, Drop Forging and Engineering Co. With Florence E.[1]

1941 General manager John Garrington and Sons and made director in 1944

1964 Appointed MD of GKN

1965 Appointed Chairman and Chief executive

1974 Retired
